About

Dr. Ben Mitchell (he/they), MA, MI, PhD

I am a historian of science, technology, and medicine, scholar of science and technology and neurodiversity studies, and an academic librarian with an interest in publicly accessible scholarship. As the assistant curator at the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre, I helped design and deliver exhibits, tours, and other public programming related to the history of mental health and neurodivergence at the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital in Etobicoke, Ontario.

I have been an invited speaker at half a dozen venues on topics related to neurodiversity in education, including at the Waterloo Public Library, Mount Royal University, Thompson Rivers University, and Maskwacis Cultural College. I also help to organize the Neuro-GLAM-erous Discord server for neurodivergent gallery, library, archives, and museum (GLAM) workers.

I can be found at OrchidID, Google Scholar, Bluesky, and Tumblr.
